DECA UNLV LogoUNLV DECA is a student driven organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.
“We started in 2012 and are the only Collegiate DECA chapter in Las Vegas,” said local chapter president Nicky Huynh. “We currently have 70 members.”
Founded in 1946, DECA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) with more than 200,000 high school members, 4,500 advisors, and 15,000 postsecondary collegiate division members around the world. DECA is authorized and supported by the United States Congress, as well as the federal and state Departments of Education. The student members of DECA are smart, dedicated individuals already actively involved in preparing for successful careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
The UNLV DECA organization is looking for #VegasTech companies to get involved in their Shark Tank Case Study Competition.
“We are looking to work with any businesses that have a problem and would like to have college students come up with probable solutions,” explained Randy Huynh, VP of Technology for the organization.
The Shark Tank Case Study Competition involves either an individual or a team analyzing a real-world case situation that deals with evaluating company structures and business development. The participants must create a presentation that could be utilized as a proposal for potential angel investors, venture capitalists, and local stakeholders.
“This Shark Tank case study helps our members prepare for our International Career Development Conference in April and provides an opportunity for our members to apply what they’re learning in their study,” said Nicky Huynh. “We had 5 members who placed last year as International finalists who benefited from the case study.”
This is UNLV DECA’s 2nd year of running the Shark Tank Case Study Competition. Last year, the teams created effective social media and marketing plans, looked at future strategies to boost sales, analyzed the company’s current business model, and suggested possible improvements
“Our first case study company was Winky Designs,” said Nicky Huynh. “The entrepreneur enjoyed the experience and looked into the solutions the students provided. Our members who competed came from different disciplines and learned to cross pollinate into fields they are unfamiliar with.
