Smart, connected devices are transforming our world. The Internet of Things (IoT) is here — and it’s about to explode. The promise of IoT is smart everything – anything that can be connected, will be connected is the rule of our future.
The Internet of Things is the network of physical objects—devices, vehicles, buildings and other items—embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity that enables these objects to collect and exchange data. In a new Las Vegas Meetup, attendees will discuss the limitless opportunities IoT is opening up for business and society.
“The Internet of Things (IoT) is radically transforming the face of our world — and opens up an immense number of opportunities for savvy entrepreneurs,” explained Meetup organizer Chris Mohritz. “So now is the time for tech entrepreneurs/startups to start tapping into this game-changing revolution. The Internet of Things (IoT): Las Vegas Meetup intends to bridge the gap and provide Vegas entrepreneurs with the tools and strategies for building IoT solutions — and business models around those solutions.”
Mohritz believes that as a high profile technology, the IoT provides Las Vegas with a great opportunity to make waves in the tech startup world.
“If we can can rack up a few success stories in IoT startups, it could be a great way to attract more startups and tech talent to Las Vegas,” he said.
Discussions for this new Meetup will be focused on the practical business uses for IoT devices and technologies.
“Each meeting consists of two segments, which are 1 hour each,” explained Mohritz. “The first is “Food for thought” and the second is “Actionables.” In the first segment, we’ll discuss how different aspects of the IoT are changing our world and the opportunities they open up for entrepreneurs. In the second segment, we’ll dive into step-by-step guides around building IoT devices and implementing IoT systems into business functions.”
He’s hoping this Meetup will attract forward-thinking entrepreneurs — whether in startup mode or running an existing business — who are looking to build smart devices, open up new new technologies, or explore ways to automate everyday life.
“The greatest successes will be local entrepreneurs creating startups centered on IoT technologies. And, of course, we’re always open to like-minded sponsors and speakers,” he said. “The IoT provides an massive opportunity for savvy entrepreneurs — not only in creating the devices, but also solving the privacy and security problems those new devices will cause.”
As with his other new focused on Machine Learning, Mohritz chose to call The Innevation Center home. The first gathering is Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 6:00pm.
“I explored a few different locations for this meetup, but ultimately decided on The Innevation Center because I see it as a hub for the Las Vegas tech and startup scenes,” he said. “And to keep things convenient for the attendees, I also wanted to keep the venue close to some of the other related tech Meetups running out of The Innevation Center.”
Mohritz says both of his new #VegasTech Meetups, Machine Learning and IoT, are heavily interdependent.
“It’s machine learning systems that put the ‘smart’ into the smart homes, smart cities, and smart factories IoT will create,” he said. “The IoT is only going to grow. And with less than 0.1% of all the devices that can be connected, are connected. The potential and opportunities are tremendous.”
