The Innevation Center is a one-of-a-kind public/private conference, collaboration & coworking environment created by Switch. The mission is to boost and diversify Nevada’s economy. Below is top news that happened for The Innevation Center during the week of November 17, 2014.
#1 – Vegas WordCamp 2014
“We can’t think of a better conference to end the year with than Vegas WordCamp,” The Innevation Center team wrote on their blog. “We first told you about WordCamp back in August when organizers were rounding up speakers and volunteers. Now, it’s almost here! Will you join us on December 13 and 14?”
WordCamps are casual, locally-organized, non-profit conferences covering everything related to WordPress, the free and open source content-management software that powers over 75 million sites on the web. WordCamps come in all different flavors, based on the local communities that produce them. In Las Vegas, that means great speakers from our local community as well as experts from around the country, showcasing the talent and prestige of the Las Vegas technology and business communities.
The event offers 2 tracks for attendees. One is the “Developer/Designer” track and the second is “User/Business”. Sessions include:

#3 – Hour of Code
The team at The Innevation Center is hosting an Hour of Code event during Computer Science Education Week on December 11, 2014 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am.
Computer Science Education Week, happening December 8-14, 2014, recognizes the transformative role of computing and the need to bolster computer science education.
The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. Anyone, anywhere can organize an Hour of Code event. One-hour tutorials are available in over 30 languages. No experience needed, ages 4 to 104.
Last year, hundreds of organizations joined together to create fun introductions to programming for all to learn. This year the goal is to get 100 million participants from all across the globe.
“We’re inviting members of Innevation and the #VegasTech community to come and donate an hour of their time to help #VegasTechKids from Walter Bracken STEAM Academy learn some coding basics,” wrote The Innevation Center team on their blog. “You don’t need to be a programmer to participate; just guide students through an easy-to-follow tutorial and have a great time!”
