There is an interesting locally-relevant CrowdHall event going on over the next week with the City of Las Vegas. The City is using VegasTechFund backed startup CrowdHall to get the community’s input on the issue of legalizing medical marijuana, which will be the first of a series of town halls they will do throughout the year.
“We think this is a great opportunity to get our community’s input and feedback on a relevant issue for the city, as well as a way for people to get familiar with our product, which has been used more in the DC area,” explains Austin Hackett, CrowdHall CEO and Co-Founder.
“CrowdHall lets anyone easily host interactive online town halls,” Austin Hackett continues. “Whether it’s a Q&A between a celebrity and fans or a politician sourcing ideas from constituents, CrowdHall prioritizes the crowd’s questions and ideas, letting the host of the conversation respond in a simple and social way.”
The CrowdHall team connected with the City of Las Vegas when they hired a new social communications director who was looking to be more innovative with the city’s digital offerings.
“When Las Vegas hosts traditional in-person town halls around certain issues, they generally have between 10-20 people attend, and are not able to access a very representative group,” Austin Hackett said. “Using CrowdHall, they can access a larger and broader audience much more easily. CrowdHall also lets them provide more comprehensive answers to the crowd’s questions and distribute them through all their communication channels. Additionally, the crowd-moderated nature of CrowdHall shows users that the city is legitimately open, accessible, and interested in their feedback and input, as opposed to trying to direct the discussion wherever they want to.”

About the event: The City of Las Vegas is taking your comments online through noon on April 24, 2014 here. They will answer the top 10 questions so make sure to vote on other questions if they have the same question or comment that you do. The City will hold a meeting to get public comment on medical marijuana at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in City Hall Council Chambers located at 495 S. Main Street. The meeting will be carried live on KCLV Channel 2.
