UNLV’s Metal Rebel robot won 8th in the DARPA robotics challenge and is being highlighted in a NOVA special later this month.
“On February 24, 2016 at 9pm “Rise of the Robots” will premiere on NOVA,” said Cheryl Bella, Director of Communications at UNLV’s Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering. “We’re excited to have our Professor, robot and team appear in such an exciting and respected show.”
In spring 2015, a team of UNLV researchers and students led by Professor Paul Oh, Lincy Professor for Unmanned Aerial Systems in the mechanical engineering department, competed in the international DARPA robotics challenge. The outstanding team ended up placing eighth in the world. “Rise of the Robots” follows the engineers and teams of DARPA as their robots compete in real-world challenges designed to eventually have robots replace humans in disaster relief situations. The program investigates the cutting-edge technologies that are advancing robotics as never before … and the enormous challenges that the robots still face.
“Rise of the Robots” premieres Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 9pm on Vegas PBS.
